Unrest Continues in Honduras

Unrest Continues in Honduras

September 28, 2009

Unrest continues in Honduras.   President Zelaya, ousted in a coup on June 28, has returned to the country and taken refuge in the Brazilian embassy.  As troops surround the embassy, a negotiating team from the Organization of American States was denied entry.  A curfew is in place, and public gatherings have been banned.

Exito Travel recommends postponing non-essential travel to Honduras until the situation stablizes.  While tourist destinations such as Roatan remain peaceful, travel disruptions are likely.  Furthermore, the situation may deteriorate, and it might be difficult to leave quickly.

Most carriers are allowing travellers holding tickets for travel in early October to reschedule with no change fee.  If you have already purchased tickets for travel to Honduras in the next two weeks, contact your Exito travel agent to discuss your options.
