You’re finishing up on packing for a flight to tropical Belize and it’s down to reading materials. Guidebook? Check. Beachchair reading (a.k.a. “trashy romanceâ€) ? Check. How about some top-notch literature, poetry, or a practical “how to†or reference book? Check! Why? Sure, vacations can be a perfect time to finish a sidelined novel, but there’s another good reason to bring some quality books: donate them to the local libraries in Belize.
A recently-launched organization in Belize called “Angel Says Read†is making it easy by setting up strategic drop off locations in popular tourist spots like Ambergris Caye and the Tourism Village in Belize City.
According to the founder, “The libraries in Belize genuinely need books, and this is an easy way for tourists to help promote literacyâ€. A member of the board of directors is quoted as saying “The bookshelf is not part of the living room culture; books are not readily available.â€
