El DÃa de los Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day) is celebrated in Guatemala on January 6th. On the evening of January 5th, the children leave their shoes outside in the courtyard. Hay and water, for the Wise Men’s horses, is also placed in the yard.  In the morning the proof of the kings’ visit is there – the hay and water are gone, and the shoes are filled with small gifts.
This Sunday, we will gather with several friends and celebrate el DÃa de los Reyes Magos — a little late. My daughter was born in Guatemala and we have several friends with children from Guatemala.  Each year we get together to celebrate el DÃa de los Reyes Magos. It is a tradition that we cherish and the children love.
This celebration is of extra importance for me because it falls just 15 days before my daughter’s Adoption Day. On January 21 we will celebrate our 6th adoption day. This is a time of reflection about our extended stay in Guatemala and all of the wonderful friends that we made while there.
Here’s to wishing you and your family a happy New Year with abundant travels!
